On April 6, 2010, the CSME invited Dr. Victor Zinger, Associate Professor, University of Alaska Fairbanks at Dillingham, Alaska and Dr. Natalia Zinger, Associate Professor, University of Alaska Fairbanks at Dillingham to present a workshop that focused on methodologies and current practices for developing and delivering academic courses in online interactive format. The workshop was designed for participants who plan to utilize the newest available Learning Management Systems (UAF Black Board) in combination with an interactive learning platform (Elluminate Live!). Interactive technological tools that facilitate different forms of online communication, learning, and collaboration among educators, and students were presented, demonstrated, and discussed throughout the workshop. The new roles for instructors and students were discussed and evaluated. Comparison of standard face-to-face and online models and personal experiences of faculty and students insights were shared with the audience. The effectiveness of suitable teaching strategies and assessment tools in online setting were discussed.
